Destinybxdder askedWhat are parabens and why are they harmful to natural hair ?

Parabens are a chemical widely used in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals as a preservative to give products a longer shelf life by protecting them against bacteria and other contamination. Parebens are low cost and are found in many cosmetics such as, lipsticks, soaps, body lotions and hair products amongst other things.
There is no proof that Parabens are harmful to your natural hair, they tend to crop up in cheaper products also contain sulphates & mineral oils that are a no no for most naturals as they dry out your natural and/or block the hair follicles and prevent moisture from getting into your hair shaft.
The most worrying thing about Parabens are the links to cancer, Parabens have been found to be present in patients suffering from breast cancer and has been found to mimic estrogen which plays a role in the development of breast cancer. There is no conclusive proof or testing that proves that Parabens 100% harmful so it is up to you to make an informed decision on what you feel comfortable putting onto your body. Some of us are so vigilant bout what we put in our hair but forget that possible harmful chemicals are present in our lipsticks, deodorants, nail polishes and shower gels. A lot of brands have already banished Parabens from there products, it's just a case of reading the back of the bottle and making an informed choice.
