perky PONYTAIL trick

LOVE THIS BUMPED-UP MESSY PONYTAIL?
Here's the trick that has made this ponytail look a little more 'spesh' than normal... There are actually two elastics holding this pony in place, one stacked on top of the next to make the pony stick out further for extra bounciness and swing. They're also tightly wound to help keep the pony perfectly placed!

trend alert: THE LOOP

Diposting oleh good reading on Rabu, 15 Februari 2012

THIS STYLE {STRAIGHT FROM THE CATWALK} IS SO SIMPLE AND ELEGANT...
These low loops have been big at all the Fall Fashion Week shows ~ and although they may have appeared effortless, they were also pretty and polished—the definition of a good hairstyle.

TO DIY: Rake Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream through dampened hair (to tame frizz and smooth strands) and blow dry hair. Create a centre part, then scrape your hair into a low ponytail, only taking the tail halfway through the elastic, finishing it off with a piece of hair wrapped around the band. Finally tug on the outer edges of the loop, forming a triangular shape.

Gorgeous!

the slick PONYTAIL

A HIGH PONYTAIL NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE FOR SUMMER
- especially if you keep it super-slick...

To ensure that frizz and flyaways aren't going to ruin your look, work a pea-size drop of smoothing lotion into your roots and hairline before blow-drying. Brush the hair back and secure it just below your crown. To make your ponytail gleam, rub a drop of shine serum between your palms, them run them over the tail from base to ends.

+ If you're at the beach for the day, you can add a dollop of leave-in conditioner instead of the smoothing lotion to condition and protect your hair!

PS. This style works even better if your hair is a bit dirty!

bumped-up ponytail ON PARADE

LOVING THE BUMPED-UP PONYTAIL
at Monique Lhuillier's Spring 2012 show... it's the perfect way to update your hair for Spring/Summer!
The equestrian-inspired ponytail was created to be full and straight with lots of movement. The hair was prepped the hair with a volumising serum to get a sleek look through the crown, then the ponytail was teased in sections using a Mason Pearson brush, which has fine and thick bristles. One last brushing along the crown and over the outside of the ponytail gave the whole hairstyle a smooth look. The finished ponytail was so voluminous, you would have sworn hair extensions were used (but they weren't) and it bounced along the model's shoulders as they walked along the catwalk {as you can see above}!

French Braided Ponytail

Diposting oleh good reading on Rabu, 31 Agustus 2011

Remember last weekend when I said in this post that I would band Syd's hair at night and then throw it up into a quick style every morning? It was a great idea. Unfortunately, I didn't follow through. Instead, I did a different kind of ponytail that she wore for a few days.

The very front of Syd's hairline was still in a single cornrow, as seen back in the post mentioned above. I just left that alone, since it still looked good. I divided the rest of her hair into 4 sections, with one part going from front to back and another one going from ear to ear.

I french braided each section toward the center where the parts intersected.

When all 4 sections had been french braided, I joined them into a ponytail. The ponytail consisted of 3 tendrils of hair from each of the 4 french braids. I braided each tendril, resulting in a ponytail made of 12 individual braids.

After 2 days of that style, we removed the individual braids but kept the french braids and she had a great looking braid out ponytail.

I've done countless cornrow ponytails through the years, but this was the first time I had ever even thought of using french braids instead. I think I'll have to explore this more...I love the way it looks!

TWO SIMPLE TWISTS ON THE CLASSIC PONYTAIL...
For Day {above}...
To diy: Loosely tong your hair to give it some wave and movement. Gather it up into a low ponytail, leaving the front sections free, to frame your face. Once secured with a band, take a small section of the hair in the ponytail and wind it around the band, to conceal it. Pin the end of the hair with a bobby pin, pinning it behind the base of the ponytail.

... and Night {below}
To diy: Style your hair as if you were wearing it wavy and down (curling iron, hot rollers, night-before braid - your choice) then weave it in sections a few times and pull it back with a clear elastic ever so gently, by your shoulders. All your hair doesn't need to be completely in the ponytail holder, which helps give it that romantic vibe. If you want to go there, leave a section of hair beneath the ponytail out and slip a few hairpins in there in order to keep the section of hair and ponytail adjoined.

Braids to Ponytail with a Center Part

Diposting oleh good reading on Minggu, 16 Maret 2008

Sometimes my kids can pull off a center part. I started this one with the intention of French Braids, but I was told that no French Braids were allowed today, so we went with two braids to a ponytail. This one is pretty self-explanitory; I did secure each braid with an elastic before I pulled them back and I ended up leaving the elastics in, the flower covered them up. Plus I was lazy.

Side Braid to Ponytail

*Hairstyle submitted by Laurie

This is Little Londynn. Londynn is going through a braid phase right now so her mom has to come up with all sorts of variations. Here is one in particular.

Section the front part of the hair from the part to the opposite side of the part.
Braid the hair back to where your ponytail will be. Secure with an elastic.
Comb hair smooth to the ponytail and pull the braid to the ponytail.
Secure with an elastic.
Place a bow or ribbon in the hair.

Thanks for your daughters picture Laurie! We miss her!
