hair advice FROM KATE MOSS

KATE IS A BIG BELIEVER IN CLEAN HAIR...
Moss' much-admired hair, that "rolled-out-of-bed look" that even Jennifer Aniston admits to coveting, is actually pretty easy to achieve. "Always clean hair. That's a must. If in doubt, wash it," Kate recently told Allure magazine.

how-to use HAIR OILS

Diposting oleh good reading on Minggu, 29 Juli 2012

HOT HAIR OILS ARE PERFECT FOR...
de-frizzing, adding extra shine, or when used as a leave-in, they give you the silkiest and smoothest locks ever - BUT there are a few steady rules you must follow to get the maximum effect.

Here's what to 'do' and 'don't' - so you don't get the greasies:
1. Do: Use it as a treatment before you wash your hair. Apply a generous amount to hair the night before you shampoo and condition your hair. Make sure to concentrate on the ends and work up to the scalp. You should brush, braid hair, and sleep with the oil in. It's also very hydrating for the scalp, so for people who have seasonal dry scalp, this will help!

2. Do: Use it as a leave-in treatment after you've washed your hair. For a leave-in, apply a 3-5 drops to freshly washed hair and again concentrate on the ends and always apply to them first, for they are the most porous. If you have an oily scalp, don't apply past the midstrand of your hair.

3. Don't: Forget to use all natural products.  Just a few drops at the ends of your hair after its dried will get rid of any flyaways and will add the most amazing sheen that isn't oily to your locks.

fake it, 'TIL YOU MAKE IT

THE MOTTO 'FAKE IT 'TIL YOU MAKE IT'
can work wonders on unwashed, untrimmed, chemically-challenged, out-of-control hair...
Beyond what you've told you at least a zillion times before—to use a rich conditioner regularly—these tips will fake healthy hair until it actually becomes healthy again.

1. Split ends are a dead giveaway of damage. To mend them temporarily, rub a dab of non-liquidy styling cream between your fingers and pinch it over frayed pieces. Hand cream also does the trick; if you've got nothing else, conditioner will work, but only use the teeniest-tiniest dab or your ends will look stringy.

2. When your roots are oily and there's no time to shower, nothing sops up the sebum as well as dry shampoo. Powders are less sticky and a bit easier to apply than sprays, but they can result in white patches on your scalp. To ensure an even application, sprinkle the powder onto a fine-tooth comb, then rake it through your roots.

3. If you have broken hairs around your hairline, get  a fringe. It will also make fine hair look fuller. Just be sure to ask your stylist for a thick, not wispy, set.

4. Flatten out flyaways: Mist a little hair spray between your palms or onto a clean toothbrush, then smooth over. The result won't be as greasy as with a cream or serum, especially if your hair is fine. For really stubborn strands, add a second layer of spray and blow-dry flat on low speed.

5. An at-salon glossing treatment leaves hair with the kind of lustre you see in shampoo ads—and lasts longer than ordinary shine spray (through several shampoos versus several hours).
Bonus: It also helps camouflage grey roots and fading highlights.

conditioner RULES

Diposting oleh good reading on Senin, 17 Oktober 2011

A COMMON BEAUTY MISTAKE IS APPLYING CONDITIONER ALL OVER YOUR HAIR...
Most people apply conditioner as they do shampoo: starting at the top of the head and working it all through the hair - which is a common mistake.
Apart from wasting product, conditioning the roots can weigh your hair down and make it look greasy. {The hair closest to the roots is healthy new growth; it's the ends that are older, more likely to be damaged and that are in need of conditioning.}

A better way to do it: Start at your ears and apply conditioner all the way to the ends. You will gain volume and won't have to wash your hair as often.

CONDITIONING TIPS FOR ALL HAIR TYPES...
For fine or limp hair: Nourish hair with a weekly hot-oil treatment. It's lighter than a mask and won't weigh down fine hair. Pick one with proteins, which fatten strands.

If you have curly or coarse hair: Once a week, apply a deep conditioner that contains keratin to just-shampooed hair. Leave it on for ten minutes. The conditioners seal the cuticle to keep out moisture (which helps prevent frizz), while the keratin strengthens hair to resist damage.

KEVIN MURPHY MAKES ONE OF THE BEST HYDRATING SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONERS - perfect for this time of the year...
The bricklike packaging not only looks great in your bathroom, but the product works. First, the scent: Both are infused with Kakadu Plum, a vitamin-C-packed fruit from northern Australia that smells sweet and fresh without being overly fruity or floral (none of that saccharine coconut-orchid-pomegranate-splash business). The hydrating conditioning rinse has a rich, creamy consistency that feels like it actually coats your hair, and ingredients like primrose oil, micro algae, shea butter, and sunflower oil leave heat-damaged locks shiny and tangle-free.

The whole line is free of sulphates and parabens, opting for plant extracts and essential oils instead.
