Where are you from and what do you do?
I am from Arizona, I am a designer and boutique owner. I am also a natural hair enthusiast and motivational speaker. Necklace fom BLB $32 |
How long have you been natural?
I have been natural for 3yrs & 8mo.
If you have transitioned to natural what prompted you more from processed to natural hair?
I went natural due to a horrible chemical reaction.
How did you transition, did you big chop?
I transitioned with bantu knot outs every week to blend the textures and big chopped 8 months later
What were the main reasons for your choice to wear your natural hair?
After a relaxer I had a bad chemical burn, after that moment I said I would never put myself through the pain again.
What are your earliest hair memories?
How did these memories influence your hair journey today? I remember feeling beautiful, there is a special feeling that you get knowing that what is on your head is something that grew out of you and has not been chemically enhanced. That is something that a relaxer will never be able to give you.
What does having natural hair mean to you?
Going natural has not changed my life style completely, I do find that after going natural I have stayed away from bright eye shadows, I feel like the two kind of clash. I’d rather my hair get all of the attention. I am a sucker for a bright lip though!
How do you keep your hair looking so good?
I wash every two weeks, and I keep my routine quite simple. I deep condition nearly every time I wash my hair.
My routine is quite repetitive as far as styling it’s usually a twist out, Bun to stretch, following up with a Bantu Knot Out or Coil Out and then about 2weeks later another good Wash.
What products do you use in your hair?
I shampoo and condition with Tresseme. I find that all of their product lines have worked for me thus far, I love styling with ORS Olive Oil Hair Pudding, Palmers hair milk, and of course H20
What are your go to hair style?
Twistouts, bantuknot outs and the brosia bun!
Twistouts, bantuknot outs and the brosia bun!
How do you protect your hair in the winter months?
The winter months aren’t really bad here in the valley of the sun (about 50-60 degrees). I like to keep my ends tucked during that time and lots of DC treatments. Beanie’s lined in satin and hats are great too!
Do you have any advice for women starting out on there natural journey?
Get ready for a rollercoaster and a journey full of phases. No worries, you will get through them all with trial and error but at the end it makes you appreciate and love your tresses even more!
